Hurt's 1936 Ford Truck

We met Wayne Hurt and his custom 1936 Ford Truck at the Onton Haydays Cruise-In in Onton, KY. The date is 9-18-09.

We were attracted to the good craftsmanship and flathead mill in this truck.

Wayne showed us around his truck and answered our many questions. He told us that he had pieced together his ride mostly from Ebay. There are several unique features on his truck. The cab, which came from Nebraska, was channeled 6 inches and chopped 7 inches.

The bed which came from Minnesota, was customized to fit the frame that he had picked up in Madisonville, Kentucky. The front and rear suspension came from two different cars that his friends had discarded while upgrading their suspensions. Both of these cars we at the Cruise-In and parked close to Wayne.

The Flathead Ford V8 is running Fenton heads and a dual, one barrel carburetor, intake manifold.

Wayne proudly told us that the newest part on his truck (Gas Tank excluded.) is the 1960's steering wheel. He built the truck with all old parts. Check out the connecting rods for the tail light struts and the Coke bottle opener license plate holder.

Pin stripes and paint on the center console and the bed floor was done by an artist that had worked with Big Daddy Roth. On the center console is Rat Fink and on the bed floor was pin stripes that form the likeness of Jesus with a crown of thorns and a cross. While many people saw Jesus, there was also some who just saw pin stripes. It was interesting to watch the reactions of those that did recognize the image in the stripes.
