Onton Haydays Cruise-In 2009
Gearhead Geek attended the Onton Haydays Cruise-In.
This event is put on by Kent and Lisa Preston, in Onton, Ky. At about 80 miles away, this was the longest trip to date for our IH8NEW (I Hate New), 1949 Styeline.
The Cruise-In was held on Friday, September 18th at the local baseball field.
The show is open to Originals, Modified, Trucks, Street Rods, and Muscle Cars.
Sponsor Awards are hand picked by the events sponsors for the cars of their choice. There is also a People's Choice Award.
There are a lot of activities that go on around the Cruise-In. There was a country/southern rock band that played from about 6:00 to 9:00 PM. Barbeque, chicken, pork chop sandwiches, hamburgers, hot dogs, fries, onion rings, funnel cakes and various drinks were all available. We ate there and the food was good. Beside the Cruise-In was a playground and fun things for the kids. By the laughter of the children the games were fun.
Some of the kid's activities were bean bag toss, pumpkin bowling, hair painting and a toss to win a gold fish.
One of the other activities was a Cake Walk to win baked goods donated by the local community.
There was a threat of rain that never happened. It stayed cool with a steady light breeze. Almost prefect weather for walking around and looking at the estimated 250 vehicles.
This was our first time there. We really enjoyed this Cruise-In and plan to attend every year. The red Ford of Harold "Smitty" Smith pictured above won the People's Choice Award.
When everyone started leaving out of the main gate, Kent and Lisa stood on opposite sides, thanking everyone for coming and to drive safely.
Cruise through the pictures below to see some of the cars at this event that caught our eye.
