1954 Chevy Data
1954 Chevy Description
Sheetmetal and interior refinements were high on the list for the 1954 Chevrolet. The changes included the grille, taillights and front bumper. The new grille now extended the full width of the car with 5 teeth and elongated parking lights at each end of the grille bar. A simpler taillight with surrounding chrome treatment, cleaned up the look from behind. the new bumpers extended farther around the fenders. As they had in 1953, high-end Bel Airs featured standard fender skirts and a dagger-like clash of contrast paint on the rear fenders. Hardtops sported two-tone cloth and vinyl upholstery and an eight-passenger station wagon joined the series. Other optional equipment that came about this year included power brakes, power seat, and power front windows. Green-tinted E-Z-Eye glass was optional on all Chevrolets.
The 1954 Chevrolet was offered in the 150, 210, and Bel Air models and featured numerous exterior trim changes. The Del Ray trim package was introduced, basically a 210 with an upgraded interior.
Standard transmission versions were rated at 115 hp, while the PowerGlide-equipped versions sported 125 horsepower.
The 1954s would be the last strictly 6-cylinder, torque-tube-drive, economy-before-thrills Chevrolets.
By model year end Chevrolet was still outselling Ford but the numbers were very close. Chevy was competing against Ford who had introduced its overhead valve V-8 while Chevrolet’s was still a year away.
